The no of Voice Over IP vendors is on the up giving you more choices and superior calling plans

Just last week I was browsing through a piece in Home Business and found about this thing I had never heard of before called a skype phone.The two geezers who started it sold their website to ebay and are now very wealthy because of it.What am I talking about.It is called voip.It is hardly a novel concept making a call to a friend over the world wide web without having to putting your hand in your pocket.

Basically then you will be able to chat to whoever you like whenever you like wherever they are in the world and can even see them if you have skipe and a webcam.Saying that though it is not all plain sailing as a slow connection will be of no use to you.Great pictures are not guaranteed however if your connection is slow.

One of the worlds biggest sites Ebay has already jumped on the bandwagon and is flogging phones specifically for skyp.Skype is going to be massive from the amount of downloads we have seen since 2004.

Some of the commercial phone companies are already selling voip phone service..I guess the question remains is it commercially possible.Will it take on the internet by storm, or is it just a passing fad.

My assumption is that it is still in its youth and inevitably will go through a time where a lot of different companies will come up with a variety of ways to do this.The most likely scenario is that the federal govt will want a slice of the action by regulation.At the moment skype makes its money by charging people who phone land lines from their computer using it.

It looks like voice over interet protocol is also at the forefront of web video conferencing as well. Web video conferencing was a huge idea about 10 years ago but then fell off the radar but now it is making a return.

My thoughts are that audio and video over the web, especially over a broadband connection will see a shift in popularity.Everything says that audio and video will be the the hottest thing since mustard.

The next decade will be make or break for the world of voip and only the consumers will tell us whether the free skype download is worth shouting home about.We will know fairly soon how it manages .
